Courses
Our Sixth Form delivers a personalised and holistic education where every student is known, supported and challenged to excel.
With access to a wide range of academic and enrichment opportunities, our students develop the skills, confidence and experience needed to thrive - whether progressing to university, securing a competitive apprenticeship or entering the world of work.
We are proud to offer a Sixth Form curriculum that meets the diverse aspirations and strengths of our students. This year, students can choose from three high-quality pathways:
A Level study
Students will select three A Level subjects, depending on their GCSE results. All A Level courses are now linear, meaning they are studied over two years and assessed by final examinations at the end of the second year.
To enrol on A Level programmes, students must achieve at least five GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including a grade 6 in the subject they wish to study. Please refer to the individual course guidelines for any additional subject-specific entry requirements.
T Level in Science
T Levels are new, two-year qualifications taken after GCSEs and are broadly equivalent to three A Levels. They have been designed in collaboration with employers and education providers to ensure the content meets current industry needs. T Levels combine classroom-based learning with substantial, real-world experience through an industry placement lasting around 45 days.
Our entry requirements for T Level (Level 3) study are five GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including a grade 5 in Science.
BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate or BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Science
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Science
These qualifications are career-based and equip students with specialist knowledge and practical skills in specific areas, which are needed to move on to higher education or go straight into employment. Some of the BTEC courses offer work experience which adds a more vocational aspect to the qualification and this makes our students extremely employable due to this unique combination of skills, experience and knowledge.
All National BTEC qualifications use external and internal assessment methods which are designed to give flexibility to students. Examinations are now a key part of the syllabus. The BTEC National Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A-Levels and is widely recognised by universities and employers. Most of our students who have studied the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma progress onto university courses.
Our entry requirement for BTEC level 3 study is 5 GCSE grades at grade 5 or above and a grade 5 in Science.
BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Science
The BTEC Level 2 in Applied Science is a vocational, practical course designed for students who want to develop knowledge and skills in science while preparing for further study or employment. It focuses on real-world scientific uses of biology, chemistry and physics rather than purely exam-based assessment. Most students who complete the course will progress to BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science.
We will advise students whether this course is more suitable for them.
Each pathway is academically challenging and highly respected by universities, apprenticeship providers and employers. The Level 2 BTEC has also been designed as a progression route for students who wish to continue to Level 3 qualifications the following year.
In addition to their studies, our Sixth Form curriculum includes volunteering opportunities, promotion of work experience and a PSHCE programme.
